During our Spring break I was able to go and observe a CPR class that was taught with the new 2010 AHA materials. It was quite interessting. The class that I observed was a BLS (Basic Life Support) class. From watching the new video that came out I did not quite like it much. It had lots of explaining why the AHA has new technique in performing CPR. It was really good to be able to watch the class. It was the first to be taught with the new materials!
I am finishing up my seinor project. Although I have reached my goal of students, I will not be completely done with teaching when presentation day comes. I have a few more CPR classes to do. I will be teaching the coaches a refresher BLS CPR on April 13. It should take about two hours. I'm quite excited, but a bit nervouse. Then on April 20 I will be teaching the other coaches who have not had r CPR certification. This class should take at least 3 hours.
After senior project presentation, I plan on continuing to teach CPR classes. I want to not only stop at my goal, but to go even further! During this seinor project I have learned many things. I have learned how to speak more comfortably in front of people, developed my own teaching skills, learn to be more patient and learned how to plan and work around others schedules. It's been very fun, but very challenging. I also had to keep up with many of my CPR class rosters as instructors must fill out. I found that difficult as well.
My senior project has helped me to become more confident in speaking to a large group. It gave me the gratification knowing that I have taught life-saving classes through CPR. I will miss teaching CPR to the students, but hopefully after I graduate I will be able to come back to teach CPR!
